What The World Needs Now……………..
In 1998, there was an extremely popular hit song, ”What The World Needs Now, Is Love Sweet Love” This song was written by famed song writer, Burt Bacharach and performed, by Jackie De Shannon. This song was characterized by great lyrics, that are even more pointed in today’s World.
As we move thru a challenging 2020 and prepare for 2021, I will contend, what the world still needs is love sweet love, but just as important, the World needs leadership! Leadership is defined by a number of terms, such as:
Guidance
Direction
Influence
Initiative
Clear Communication and Messaging
Motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.
Maximize the efforts of others towards to achievements
Vision
When we couple those key leadership terms with historical leaders, the following groups come to mind:
Abraham Lincoln, for his abolishing of slavery. Also, for overcoming 11 plus major failures, to become President in 1860
John Wooden, famed UCLA basketball coach, for not only leading his teams to ten NCAA Championships, but blending his Christian beliefs with “old school toughness” and molding players from very diverse backgrounds into prolific teams.
George Washington, for his strategic vision in commanding the Continental Army, heading the Constitutional Convention and serving as the first President of the United States.
Mahatma Ghandhi, for adopting a clarity of goals and definite purpose. He aimed at a common agenda.
Nelson Mandella, for showing the World, what forgiveness looks like.
Martin Luther King, for being empathetic and his persistent efforts to inspire, lead and change.
Winston Churchill, for being courageous, against all odds.
Everyone has their own list of great leaders, who have molded or shaped their lives. They could be a teacher, coach, religious leader, or family member. These personal connections, along with aspirational leaders, such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, help guide us in leading our families, workplaces and communities.
So while the World needs love, we need positive leadership as well. During the remaining months of 2020 and into 2021, each of us can in our own way be leaders and make the World a better place for all.
